Surprise Pairs Competition

This is a relatively new event at the club, the winners of which receive a magnificent trophy in the form of a camel donated to the competition by a member with a keen sense of humour.

Entrants to the competition do not know who they will be paying with until the night of the event. Pairs are drawn out of a hat as well as who they are playing, and the handicap of each pair is worked out by finding the average handicap of the two players in the team. This handicap then adds to the pair’s score in their match which, on completion, is recorded. After each round of games new pairings are drawn and new team handicaps worked out. Players can play a number of games during the evening – there is no set amount – however indidual averages are worked out for each player separately based on the total points scored per match (including handicaps) divided by the number of games played. The winner is the player with the highest individual average at the end of the night.

Confused? No need to be as all the sums are worked out using a spreadsheet on the night.
