The PHG snooker club is throwing open its doors from 6.30 pm on Monday 14th March to the public. Why dont you come along and see what the club is all about. We have three full sized tables and a licensed bars with drinks at very competitive prices. You can play a game of snooker or just sit and chat in our cosy bar. Lionel Payne, our resident professional snooker coach, will be on hand to offer advice and take bookings for personal coaching. Lionel runs our junior academy which is starting soon. Get ready for a scintillating Six Nations Rugby  competition. The club will be open for each of the four rounds starting Saturday 5th February when Ireland take on Wales at 2.15pm, followed by Scotland v England at 4,45

Enjoy the match in the warmth with a pint from our fully licensed bar (members only)

This is a fun filled competition night where members compete for prizes brought in by their fellow competitors. Each member brings in a prize worth no more than £15 and donates it to the prize table.

From 7.30 pm. Open to Members only. Sign up at the bar.

Most competitions for 2020 and 2021 have been cancelled due to Covid, however the Presidents Competition is now up and running. This has to be finished by the AGM at the end of November so can all competitors contact their opponents to arrange any outstanding first round matches ASAP

Another competition, the popular Penfold Doubles, will soon start and is open to all members. Information will be available soon

On Saturday 5th October we ran our first gin tasting night. Organised and hosted by Grail Distillery, Saddleworth over 30 people enjoyed the superb collection of gins created by this relatively new distillery.

Ably assisted by the charismatic Paul Gibson, account manager at Grail, who acted as the MC for the night, master distiller Alex introduced each gin and explained the processes and flavourings involved in their production. The tastings ended with a beautifully creamy gin liqueur with a hint of a ‘Baileys’ going on.

The club is definitely considering holding another tasting night in the new year, purely based on the very positive feedback received for this fantastic evening

Summer is over but there are plenty of things planned for this autumn at the snooker club. Here’s what is coming up …..

Tuesday 24th September – after a summer break our internal league starts again.

Saturday 5th Oct – our inaugural Gin Tasting night. Price £20 – includes 5 gins to taste and nibbles. Tickets available from the bar.

Saturday 19th Oct – dust off the fangs, polish the broomstick and get ready for our Halloween Quiz. Prize for the best costume. Starts 7.30pm Tickets £6 per person in teams of 4.

Looking forward to the school holidays? Thinking of things to do? Why not take up snooker? Our club is offering Free Snooker Coaching on Monday 29th July. We have three separate sessions, for students aged between 8 and 16, each 75 minutes long with Lionel Payne a WPBSA coach. The numbers are limited to 6 students per session so call 07841163682 to reserve a place.

Later in the holidays we are running a summer school over 3 days (28th – 30th Aug). Three hours of coaching and snooker games for just £15 per day, which includes two months free junior membership of the club. Again numbers are limited to just 6 students a day so ring the above number to ensure your place.

A great night for all the quizzers that turned up for our Hawaiian night. As ever Steve did a fantastic job and the buffet spread was brilliant. Our next Quiz night is in October.
